Stars of the Day: April 6
Michael Schlact, the Rangers third rounder in the 2004 draft,
The 6'8" righty needed 84 pitches to get through his 6.2 frames (an excellent 12.59 pitches per inning), and 57 were strikes.
That efficiency is par for the course with Schlact: In his three full seasons since becoming a professional, the 22 year old Schlact has averaged over 150 innings a year.
Frisco, which improved to 4-0, has now gotten three consecutive quality starts.
Ian Gac delivered his fourth home rund of the year in a 2-4 outing that also included three walks in 3-1 Clinton's 12 inning victory over Cedar Rapids.
Gac, taken out of an Edmonds, Washington high school in the 26th round the 2003 draft, has struggled as a professional, hitting .222 / .280 / .399 in 1365 professional at-bats coming into the 2008 season. This is the fourth straight year he has spent time on the Clinton roster. Last summer, Gac led the Northwest League with 17 bombs in 257 at-bats.
Some skeptics said that Elvis Augusto Andrus -- the only teenager in the Texas League -- wouldn't hit in the Texas League.
After yesterday's 2-5, 2 RBI outing that included a triple, Andrus has now hit safely in each of Frisco's four games including three multi-hit performances.
We love you Michael Young, but you might need to take a glance at that expanse of green grass behind you and have a chat with Rusty about playing balls off the scoreboard.
